I'm looking at an entry on 1841 census for Sarah Redman, age 39. her son is John, age 19. in an address what looks like 'Hob House'
Further forward to 1851 and they are in 'Hole House'
Do you think this is one and the same place and that it's just the way it's been written on the 1841?
Anyone have knowledge of the area?

Hi Rob,

I don't know the area well so I can't help you there, but my grandparents, as a young couple, lived at Hole House Cottage when the 1911 census was taken. Could this be the same house? It's on the Towneley Estate, between Burnley and Cliviger, about 1.75 miles from the Church at Holme-in-Cliviger.

I was able to get an aerial view of it with Google maps, but that isn't working for me today.
The railway line is close by.

Having had a look at both census pages, I think it is the same address. 1841 page does read as Holehouse to me.

Thanks Mel, I was looking at the adjoining addresses and they seem to match too.
does anybody have any idea what Hole House was? Seems to be a lot of people living there. I'd love to see some pictures of it or the place where it stood if anybody knows. Thanks

Not an area I'm familiar with so not much help there but google maps is always useful to get and idea of an area. Now that they have the stret view section (assuming the area is covered) it'ss even better!
