Hello

I am a member of LFHHS researching my Walton family from Colne and surrounding towns.
The name that crops up a lot is Ambrose. I found a link to my Gt Gt Grandfather Ambrose Walton b 1802 in Colne on this site in an article from MEL (Laying The Foundation Stone of the New Building of the Mechanics' Institution.) as he was in wool & cotton manufacturing with the Roberts brothers of Roughlee in a company called Roberts & Walton they donated £300 to the project.
His name appears above the door of the school he built in Roughlee which is still open today.

I am interested in exploring all Walton connections. so far I have:

Ambrose Walton b 1802 (Colne) m Susan Roberts Newchurch
Ambrose Walton b 1759 (Colne) m Sally Hartley at St Barts Colne 17.4.1786
(pos) Ambrose Walton b 1729 Colne m Ellen Unknown
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Garry

Hi Garry, welcome to the forum.

I have one Walton family in my tree (that I can think of.)

This is their gravestone at Haggate http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Gra ... Pickup.htm

Ellen was formerly a Sutcliffe.

I don't have time today but over the weekend I'll have a dig to see if I have anything Walton related that I have not yet added to the site.

Hello Garry,
I have a William Walton who married Susan Dewarden on August 3rd 1795 in Colne. I thought his parents were probably Ambrose Walton and Betty Eastwood who married in Colne on 5.1.1775. I had no idea that there were so many Ambrose Waltons. If I am correct Ambrose's father was James Walton of Little Marsden. Ambrose was christened at St Barts Colne on June 2nd 1751.
