Burnley Express and News, March 24, 1943

Last Saturday in St. James’s Church, Briercliffe, the wedding took place of Miss Jennie Pollard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pollard, 15, Cuerdale-st., Burnley, and Mr. Alban Chadderton, 42, Milton-street, Burnley, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas Chadderton.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a dress of white brocaded satin with tulle veil and head-dress of ostrich feathers and carried a bouquet of pink tulips. The brides-maids were Miss Alice Barnes, friend of the bride, of Walkden, Manchester, and Miss Maureen Whitaker, the bridegroom’s niece. Miss Barnes wore a blue cloque dress with a coronet of silver leaves and shoes to tone, and carried a muff with spray of pink tulips. Miss Whittaker was in pink crepe de Chine. She had a silver Juliet cap and shoes to tone, and carried a muff with spray of pink tulips. The dame of honour, Mrs. Raymond Dean, friend of the bride, of Walkden, Manchester, wore blue cloque, with a coronet of silver leaves and shoes to tone. She had a muff and spray of pink tulips. The best man was Mr. Tom Chadderton, brother of the bridesgroom and the groomsmen were Mr. Neville Pollard, brother of bride, and Mr. William Taylor, friend of the bridesgroom, with Mr. Jack Pollard, cousin of the bride, the usher.

The ceremony was performed by the vicar (the Rev. A. B. Dex), and Mr. Wilfred Nuttall, at the organ, accompanies the singing of “Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us.” Following a reception at Lanehead School, the newly-married couple left for the honeymoon at St. Annes, the bride travelling in a fawn camel hair coat with burgundy accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Chadderton, who are to reside at 42, Peart street, Burnley, have received many handsome presents, including a cheque from the bridegroom’s colleagues at Butterworth & Dickinson’s ironworks.
