I am trying to find out more about my 4xgt grandparents James Brierley and Mary Nutter.
James Brierley birth c 1800 married Mary Nutter, their son
Benjamin Brierley birth c1830 married Martha Foulds in 1852, their son
William Brierley birth c1853 married Betty (Betsy) Stanworth, their daughter
Martha Ann Brierley married James Kippax in 1899
they were my gt grandparents.
I have various info through censuses etc but cannot find anymore on James Brierley and Mary Nutter.
HELP.

Hi Sue
I have collected quite a few Nutters in my search for my ancestors! I currently have a problem with John Nutter b c.1816 in Briercliffe. I cannot determine who his parents are as he was already married in 1841.

Anyway - to your query.

Emma/Amia Nutter was christened 5 Dec. 1779 in Colne (at St. Bartholomews - now Colne Parish). Her parents were Ellis Nutter & Betty Shackleton m. 1 Sep. 1776 (this is from Latter Day Saints site as the only Ellis Nutter who married at Colne Parish married Mary Bannister 13 October 1773).

Ellis & Betty also had other children. (these are birthdates from Parish register)
Mary Nutter b. 5 July 1778
William Nutter 3 June 1781
Isabella 4 Dec 1785
John Nutter 1 July 1787

There are 2 Ellis Nutters in Colne Parish baptism register that would fit dates.
Ellis Nutter Bap. 23 March 1748 (bit old maybe?) Father was John Nutter of Blakey
Ellis Nutter bap 18 June 1756 (better fit age wise!) Father was John of Greenfield

Hope this helps!
Regards
Annie

Amendment to reply
They are all baptism dates - not birthdates - sorry! Lapse in concentration.

Sorry Moh
I have Margaret & Martha but no Mary. Looking at the 1851 census Richard seems to be the eldest and unless there were older children that would put the marriage around 1828?
I see that Richard & Robert were both born in Trawden but Henry's wife Mary was born in Embsay, Yorkshire - maybe they married over there?
A Henry Nutter married Mary Naylor 13 May 1821 in Birstall, Yorkshire according to Latter Day Saints. But Birstall is Bradford/Leeds way & Embsay is near Skipton.
Sorry I can't help
Annie

Hi James,
Maybe I have some info for you. You wanted to know the marriage
date for Robert & Sarah (Procter)Nutter.
Here it is: (although the birthdate I have for Robert is 1817 typo?)
Robert (46, Widower) Sarah (44 spinster) married 31 Oct 1863
St James Church, Briercliffe (they left their mark, neither could write)
Witnesses were Martha Smith & Jerimiah Clough,

At time of marriage, Robert was a Carter, Sarah, a weaver. Sarah
was daughter of Wade & Mary (Haworth) Procter of Haggate. Robert
was son of Lawrence & ? Nutter.
They show on 1871 & 1881 census. Wade (78) is living with them
in 1871

Hi James,
I'm glad I could help. I am researching the NUTTER & ASHWORTH
FAMILIES, so when I come across someone who could be related,
I make a copy, just in case. Incidentally, NICHOLAS PROCTOR was a
witness at ELLIS NUTTER & SALLY ASHWORTH MARRIAGE at St Peter's
in 1799. Haven't been able to find him (could be a relative?), so if
you have a Nicholas in your family, perhaps you can enlighten me.

By the way, I have been checking back daily to see if you answered,
EXCEPT TODAY. Thanks to MEL's message, I turned on my computer,
there it was.
THANKS MEL!!!
Janet :D
