The photo on the home page of the shop at Haggate-------what does all the writing say, the shop sign, the sign on the left wall, anything. I cannot bring it up clear enough to read.

PM me your email address Gloria (I don't have it on this computer) and I'll send you a copy of the picture which you should be able to read

Gloria, the scanned image in my archive is not as clear as I thought. I have a copy of the photo but it's in a frame in France. Next time over (at the end of the month) I'll scan it at a higher resolution in the hope that more of the writing can be read.
The following is what I can make out and reads left to right, top to bottom.

To left of door
Haggate Post Office
North England Celebrated Preserves
Use Only Health Soap ? Healthy Homes

Above door.
Haggate Provision Stores. R. HALSTEAD. Draper. Tea & coffee Dealer. Licensed to sell Patent

Cannot see the signs to the right of the door.

Thanks Mel, I thought it said Halstead. Does he have a long black beard?

No sadly he isn't, although the Halsteads married Parkers many years ago, there aren't any Halsteads anywhere in my direct line

That is my great-great-grandfather, Robert, with the black beard. His son, John Robert, is in the photo archives. My dad, Jack Halstead, remembers going to this shop as a child with his grandfather (John Robert) to visit. There was another son who died...I do believe you have an In Memoriam card for him, Mel...and there were some daughters, also in this photo.

I do Sue. I have held off the remaining uploads as I am in the process of transferring everything into a new system. It will make life easier for me when I make additions to the site.
I did transcribe the Memorial cards into the forum. They are here somewhere.

There is this one...is this the one you were thinking of Sue (near the bottom of page 2.)

What difference will the new system make Mel?

It won't make a huge difference to you as you view it although there will be a zoom/enlarge facility with the pictures. I'll also be able to add the newsletters.
It's more in the admin section that it is different. It's going to make my life easier for uploading files and pictures.

When will it be done? Anything I can do to lend a hand?

Thanks Gloria, there isn't really. At the moment I am transferring everything from one system to the other. I'm not chuffed about this but it will be worth it in the end.
We planned a transfer for a while but it's the newsletters and the Th' Owd Syker articles that have brought it forward. Syker will have his own section on the main site. I don't suppose you have a picture of him do you? I know I asked you for a short bio didn't I? (I have a memory like a sieve lately!)
When we do start using the new site, I could do with everyone keeping an eye on the links that go from the forum to the main site. They should still work but there may be the odd one that doesn't.

Isn't there a photo of him in the papers I gave you, I think it was "Those were the Days", he is bending down in the garden. If that won't do I can find another.
How many words do you want the "short" bio to be?

Oh, possibly. I scanned them and then haven't looked through them all properly. I'm taking more notice as I transcribe them. Will have a look.
It doesn't need to be much Gloria. Just who he was, where he was born, where he lived. Parents/siblings. Just so that people who haven't heard of him can build a picture.
