I am looking for any information on John Hargreaves and his family (wife Elizabeth, children Mary, Robert*, James and Caroline) who lived at the Railway Hotel, Railay Street, Little Marsden, Briercliffe in the 1871 census.

Robert* was my Ggrandfather, his son Arthur my grandfather (married Mary MacKay from Burnley), his daughter Annie my mother.

Have you found John in any of the earlier census, perhaps with his parents. I have a John Hargreaves in my tree, but I think he is probably too old for your family. His father was Emmanuel Hargreaves who lived in Colne but I think was of a Marsden family.

There are two sets of church records you could try for the Padiham area - St Leonard's and All Saints (Habergham). Some of them are online at http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/

Thank you Gilly, I have them in the 1861 Census at Dane Fold and lucky enough to have a photo of the address.

John's father was James (bc 1806) and he married a Mary?
John had siblings: Thomas, Aaron, Betty, Richard, Mary Ann and another child name unknown.

I know Hargreaves is a common name around the Burnley/Padiham area. My grandmother married Arthur Hargreaves and her sister married Harold Hargreaves but the two Hargreaves were not related.
