Mel,

One suggestion for the photo archive (if you're considering a site revamp) might be to have it searchable by keywords...?

I'll ask hisnibs. Hadn't thought about that. Good idea Stephen. It is a pain when looking for something specific. I don't think we (Lyndon and I) ever expected the site to get so big in terms of images when it was first created.

I don't think anyone expected it to get so big, full stop. It must be quite a facility for someone suddenly coming across it when researching Briercliffe family history.
A good job--Mel well done.(and Lyndon).

We can have a search function (he's not done anything yet despite my huge hints!) but I may have to 'fiddle with a few bits and pieces'.

Good news :D I have managed to get hold of a slide scanner so will be able to digitise the collection that The Society recently acquired. I have tried to phone Roger to arrange to see him but have not yet managed to speak to him. Will try again tomorrow

Managed to speak to Roger this morning. I'm heading north in an hour or so to collect the slides :D

Oh, amazing news! Wonderful stuff.

I was half tempted at the last meeting so grab my camera and start photographing the slides as they appeared on the wall!

If I can help with this in any way (I doubt that I can!) then do let me know. It'll be an enormous project, but will be so worthwhile.

Actually, I've just thought of a potential way I could help...I'm not too bad at fixing up creased/damaged photos, so I could always give it a go on any slides that are worn or torn.

Best of luck!

Finally made it home! Took me almost 3 hours - nightmare journey.

Anyway, I have 3 boxes of slides, about 400 I would say. Some are what we have seen at the meetings though I say that after only holding one or two up in front of the lamp on my bookcase. Hope to start on them tomorrow, would have started tonight but the drive has put paid to that :?

I also had a lovely chat with Roger, nice to have time to talk properly.

Mel,

I thought there were 'thousands' of photos in the archive, or is this specifically 'photos' and not necessarily slides...?

I think it's a combination of postcards and slides that make up the thousands. Not all are for Briercliffe. There are far more for Burnley. I did only bring a relatively small selection. 1. because I don't want to clutter my place and 2. Roger needs some for talks he has in the coming weeks/months. 3. I don't know how long it will take per slide. They have to be scanned individually.

Thanks for the offer of repairs. Will bear it in mind.

Have made a start, I'm about 1/3 through the first box. Some of these are on the site but not all of them.
What I am finding more useful, Roger lent me his index to these slides. There is a short description of each slide. When I have borrowed postcards in the past, I have had to try to remember what he told me!

Got to go out though now. Just as I'm on a roll!

Finished box 1 on Wednesday evening. Box 2 is now under way :D At this rate, I'll be able to retunr them at the meeting next week and hopefully borrow more! Might even find time to add some to the website. A lot of them are already on but not all of them.
