Is anyone doing any research which may connect with the family of my gt grandparents John (Charles) & Elizabeth Garbett (Earp) who lived in Burnley from about 1885. Their son Albert Victor Garbett and his wife Maria (Pearton) left Burnley several years after WWI. I know of the families of 4 married daughters who remained: Gibson, Riley, Parkinson, Astin. Also Maria Pearton's sister Sarah married a John Singleton.

Hi, welcome to the site.
Garbett isn't a name I have come across on the site before. (I used to go to school, here in staffordshire, with a Garbett)

Hi Mel
I'm the person who emailed you about the video of Burnley photos in case one of them was of my gt grandfather John (Charles) Garbett. The name Garbett seems to have originated in Staffordshire and Shropshire, where my ancestors came from. There may no longer be any Garbetts in the Burnley area as both John Garbett's sons left but I'm hoping that descendants of the daughters (names posted) may still be in the area. The John Garbett family lived in Burnley from about 1886 until the death of his wife Elizabeth in 1932. Elizabeth's maiden name is fairly rare: Earp. This name originates in Derbyshire and Staffordshire.

I knew I had recently seen Garbett somewhere. I searched the site and only got your posts as results which left my a bit baffled. Apologies for my terrible memory. Must invest in a Nintendo DS and brain training!!

To Violet
Thanks. I didn't know you'd emailed. Just discovered my ISP is putting lots of messages in Spam folder.

I know this is a bit after the last postings, but I have only just discovered this website. John Charles Garbett (1851-), married to Elizabeth Ann Earp (1853-1932) was a direct descendant of my g.g.g.g.g.g grandfather Thomas Garbett of Knighton Upon Teme, Worcestershire. John's parents were George Garbett of Walsall, Staffordshire (1805-1886) and his second wife, Caroline Beddoe (nee Weston)(1822-1861). If you would like the line of descent, please email me at sandroy@clear.net.nz
