I remember listening to 'cricket' conversatons between my dad and his father, Jack and James Halstead. My dad had been recruited in his late teens to try out for Burnley cricket club, but was needed at home as his mother was 'poorly' and he needed to work at the mill, so never went......he always wondered "what if.....?" By way of comforting him, my gandfather would say "Tha was oreet, Jack, but tha'd never be a Constantine!" Small comfort, methinks.....however, dad was nothing if not dutiful to his parents!
