I inherited a book, titel "Calculations In Cotton Weaving". Distributed in Burnley by Lupton Bros. 38 &40 Manchester Rd. & dated 1896. Containing 143 pages of various calculations for weaving as well as for wages &examination questions from 1895.
Inside are also advertisments for machinery made in & around Burnley. I was interested if anyone has heard of the book, or any of these companies?
The names are:
James Blezard & Sons. Padiham. Making "Self-Acting Loom Temples"
Harling & Todd. Rose Grove Burnley. Making "Looms".
Lupton & Place, Sandygate, Burnley. Making "The Burnley Dobby".
George Hattersley & Sons, Keighley.Making Weaving Machinery & the original inventors & makers of "The Keighley Dobby".
Wilson Brothers, Todmorden.Making Bobbins & Shuttles.
What is a Dobby? Because there seems to be 2 models?

Hi, Burnley Library could probably answer your questions, or maybe, better than that, Queens St Mill. I bet either would like to lay their hands on that book.

They've got copies of the book. Do you know anything about a street, Wyanotham st. Sure that's spelt wrong? My grandfather used to live at No.2 I think?

Wynotham Street runs off Briercliffe Rd just below the General Hospital. You can find it on google earth and put the little orange man on street view to see it.

A long time ago I used to live opposite Harling & Todd. They had their own foundry, wood yard and machine shop and made a basic Lancashire loom. We had to evacuate our houses when the factory set fire and was totally destroyed. The space has now been taken up by a new housing development. Wilson Fold off White St:
