Hi Folks...Im an Old Syker who emigrated to Australia 26 years ago.........I recently dropped in on Harle Syke as part of a world tour which made the village my halfway point.

Lovely images......I too spent a lot of my childhood and youth in Harle Syke and recently had a sentimental journey back there. Stayed all school hols with my grandparents at 31 Granville Street......and loved it all. Felt then- and feels now- like home. My parents moved many times so I was always the new kid...but not in Harle Syke. Took photos of the house of my grandparents this trip....the house of my great-grandparents on Church Street...and the house (which was a shop then) of my great-great grandparents on the corner at 1 Nelson Road, Haggate. The house on Church Street is for sale....and you have no idea how I wanted to call the realtor and have a look inside. But....didn't seem right...and time was of the essence....and being an emotional and quixotic purchaser of not-needed stuff...I didn't dare step foot inside!!
I was smart enough to organise this trip to coincide with a Briercliffe Historical Society meeting...and was able to sit in the school room where my dad sat many, many years ago!...and meet some grand people from this website/forum!
Portia and Mel.....was a highlight of my trip meeting you!
