Tell me where you have heard about the Halstead letter Sue and I'll see what I can do. You have to bear in mind that these Newsletters date back to 30 years, I've only covered the first 10 of the Society so far  Locating the letter may be easier said than done now

I'm not sure what was in the PM to Janice at the time I'm afraid but I will email Roger to see if he knows if it's still going or possible to get it. It's 30 years since the first Newsletter was written. The other option is to google it. Most Societys have websites today. Maybe they have if they are still going?

This is the paragraph on the Newsletter that Janice refers to-

The Halstead Family. You Halsteads, and those of you with Halstead blood, may be interested to know that such a lot of research is being undertaken into your family history that a very informative 'Newsletter' has been started by Mr. Tim Halstead of .... The publication is called 'the Halstead Newsletter' and Issue 1 is now out. Mr. Halstead will be pleased to hear from you. (The first issue is full of information about Briercliffe Halsteads and Mr. Halstead's family used to live at Windle House)

Sue,
I am at the moment transcribing newsletter No 80 and in it is an article on Halsteads and there is a book mentioned, this is part of the article, the rest I will do shortly and then Mel will add it to the site
"Some years ago the Burnley based local historian Leslie Chapples wrote a book about the Halstead family in the Burnley area called ‘Of Yeoman Stock’ and it traces the story of the family, particularly the members of it who lived in Worsthorne. Halsteads lived at High Halstead, Worsthorne Old Halland at Rowley Hall all within the Township of Worsthorne"

Gloria...I found the book online! I ordered it and it is being mailed as I type. Thank you for the heads up!! I am a bit besotted by anything Halstead...or Halsted as it was originally.I have no idea if these Halsteds are my ancestors, but I want to believe so. I am working backwards through Ancestry and Family Tree software...and perhaps forward through this book.....who knows!?
Thanks again!

If it mentions a Lawrence Halstead (1882) marrying a Maggie Brierley in 1906 that's one of mine. He was son of Robert and Ellen (Proctor) Halstead.

Numbers 68 to 88 inclusive, have been added to the site. That makes the Newsletter archive complete from the beginning of the Society back in 1983 to Spring 2009.

A huge thank you to Gloria, your help is very much appreciated.
