My great Grandmother was Emily Sutcliffe born 1872 in Barrowford. Emily married Peter Beresford and my Gran was one of their children.

My 2 x Great Grandmother was Sarah who married John Duerden.

Sarah Sutcliffes dad, Joseph, was the brother of my gt gt gt grandmother Mary Sutcliffe

I have a Ann (Nancy) Parker born c1817 married 1849 to a Thomas Sutcliffe of Yeomans Farm, Briercliffe. Ann is the sister of Mary Parker who married James Kippax in 1841. James and Mary were my 3xgt grandparents.

Hi Gloria, I retired 3 weeks ago so now I can really get to grips with the family history. I've been flitting back and forth between a few families both for myself and for my daughter in law when I had chance but now I can sit here all day if I want to. I'm not sure if I've come across Thomas Sutcliffe, I'll have a look. They do say that when you retire you have less time though. Hope that isn't the case.

Gloria!!! Why have we not discussed this before?! Thomas, I believe, is in my tree!

Just to clarify Daisy, Joseph's sister was Mary Sutcliffe who married Thomas Sutcliffe (also of Barrowford though his dad was from Heptonstall). They had a daughter Betty who married William Sutcliffe from Yeomans, Briercliffe. I believe the Thomas that Gloria refers to was a brother or nephew of this William. (I don't have access to my file right now to confirm the relationship of Gloria's Thomas to William.)

I have Sutcliffes coming out of my ears. Why couldn't one of them have married a Smith

Well, I have Joseph Sutcliffe born 1822 who was my 3x great grandfather and married Jane Roberts I have his sister Mary who was my 3 x great grand Aunt. Their parents were Bernard Sutcliffe and Sarah Dyson who were my 4 x great grandparents. I'm having a blonde day, having trouble getting my head round them all. Hope I'm on the right track.

My 'real name' is Sue but that had already been taken so I couldn't use it. I will probably see posts for Daisy and forget it's me

the father of my Thomas according to his marriage is William of Yeomens (farm which is in Briercliffe). I haven't really gone down this route as it is off at a bit of a tangent. I think William was married to a Sally? from what I think are Thomas's birth details.
Mel knows tons more on the Sutcliffes.

Thanks Gloria. Love the Daisy Sue. I'll have a look on Ancestry and see what I can find. I thought we were almost related for a minute!

It will probably be the weekend before I have time to look at my file properly, we are due to take a road trip in a couple of days and I am cramming my workload into a short week.

It's fine, I can wait for you to have a look at your file. Think I'll still be going through Sutcliffe's for many years to come. Have a good trip. Now I've retired I'm hoping to be able to get out and about more. I worked from home so I was always stuck in.

I'm lucky I can spend most of the day doing it now. These Sutcliffe's are confusing me though. I've got my great grandma's marriage certificate and there's a line drawn in the place which should have her father's name. I've got nobody left to ask who might have known now. Ever wish you had started doing it many years ago.......

do you have your gt grandma's birth details? I have the odd cert with father as a line, you can just hope he has been named on something else. What was her name, and any details??
Are you local? the Briercliffe Society has a history group which meets on the last wed in the month during the winter months at Haggate, usually an interesting couple of hours.
