I'm trying to find out when my Gt grandparents moved to and left a particular house in Blackpool for an elderly relative. We know they were there during the 1920's. I have contacted Blackpool archives thinking the electoral registers will provide the answers we need but apparently, pre-1930, they were destroyed by fire. Can anyone suggest how else I might find out who was living at the address through the 1920's please?

Local directories had street address sections. You might need a trip to the seaside...

Did anybody in this lot you mention die there?

I was thinking of death cert. and next of kin etc or old newspapers for that date, there is always the added 'attraction' of a trip up for the lights if you visit Mel.

Thanks for the replies. I think the directories will be the way to go. I have managed to put a smile on my elderly relatives face. Blackpool emailed me the employment records for his dad and uncle (my nans brothers), they worked on the trams. He was thrilled to bits.

We have death certificates and marriage certificates but we don't know when they moved there or left. We know they were there in 1921 as my Gt Gran died there and we know they were still in Briercliffe at the end of WW1 because my Nan was in bed recovering from Spanish Flu when her sister came home and asked her to go down to Burnley to celebrate. We also know that my Gt Grandfather and Nans sister had moved from one Blackpool address to another at some point between 1926 and 1935 (a marriage and a death).

The lights and the hustle and bustle of tourists really doesn't appeal to me. If I make a trip, it will be in the depths of winter during bad weather when nobody in their right mind would visit Blackpool

Would Preston Records office have appropriate directories?

It's possible Leigh, I'm sure they would have them being the County archives.

Blackpool have replied to me, the only reference they can find for one of my relatives is in the 1929 Barretts Directory.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to release the 1921 census early like the did with the 1911? Still a while to wait though

If they bought and/or sold the property the land registry might be able to help.
