This just in....I will suggest Burnley Reference Library but if anyone has any other suggestions, your input would be appreciated.

Hi, sorry to bother you but I aim to research a scent bottle I have just bought.
On it is "PRESENTED TO MISS J DODGEON" from the girls of Burnley Grammer School. July 1909.
Is there any information on her, or can you point me in the right direction.

Thankyou..

I would think that it is a Jane Dodgeon who was born 1865 in Lowerhouse, Burnley and lived with her parents John and Sarah Ann at 11 Spenser Street, Padiham. Depending on the census she was a School Mistress in 1901 and a Secondary School Teacher later.

I think so - I sent Roger the email. this was his reply...

I have a little information about Miss Jane Dodgeon who, in 1899, was a mistress at the Higher Grade Girls School, Red Lion Street in Burnley. The Society has some very old images of classroom and school yard scenes from this school. I think that the photos are taken around 1899. It could be that Miss Dodgeon is on one of them. The email refers to the "Girls of Burnley Grammar School" to which some of the mistresses of the Higher Grade School transferred when the Grammar School started to admit girls.
