I have quite a few photos that
Have been passed down to me
Of people (I haven't got a clue
Who they are)
But I do know they was taken
By a burnley photographer.
Did the photographer have records
In the 1900???

You could contact the Lancashire Archives at Preston to ask if any records were submitted to them or if they could advise where to look. It's also worth contacting any of the local libraries (reference section) to see if they can point you in a direction. Colne are very good. I assume they are still open, Burnley reference library was closed a few months ago.

Hi, I'm a volunteer in the local history section at Colne Library and might be able to help.
It's worth searching the National Archives database for the photographer's name, if there are any records it will tell you where they are stored.
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.u ... ced-search
Alternatively the Lancashire Record Office have their own online catalogue here:
http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/libraries- ... ncat.aspx/
The Colne volunteers are in the library on a Wednesday morning and are happy to help with any local or family history queries! :)

Sorry about the links, I wasn't sure how to put them in. Can anyone change them so they work? :)

Welcome to the forum Wendy.

Thanks for the info. I'm afraid the link thing is a fault of the forum system but I will have a look when on my laptop to see if I can get them to work. In the meantime, it's a case of copy and paste.

I've just spotted, thanks Wendy.

The volunteers printed a lot of information for me last year at Colne library as I couldn't get there myself. Just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you!

:D That's nice Mel, I don't think it was me but I'll pass on the thanks. Colne now has a good mix of staff & volunteers with an interest in community history...hopefully we can hang on to the resources that are left.

Do we know what has happened to all the stuff in the reference library at Burnley, or have they just closed the doors on it all?
