Are there any Bather surnames in the present day telephone directory for the Briercliffe, Nelson, Colne area?

Hi Rob
Had a look in the local directory that covers a radius of about 10 miles from Burnley but no Bathers I am afraid.
Of course they could well be ex directory.

Or on a different network? Doesn't the phonebook only list BT customers?
The electoral register would be the better option.

The electoral register for 2006 is online I think. I think you have to pay for the results though. http://www.192.com
We can opt out of the public version of the register though so they still might not be there

I looked at my CD of the 2004 Electoral Register. Several Bathers in the Liverpool/Blackpool/Manchester areas, but nothing in Briercliffe or Burnley.

Thanks Joan.
In the 19th and 20th centuries my forebears were in Liverpool.
I'm pretty sure James Bather's dad William lost his job as a cotton porter in the Liverpool docks (and living in the terrible Liverpool court slums) due to the cotton shortage during the American civil war, and so made the excellent decision to move to Briercliffe.
regards
Rob
