Today in Burnley at Turf Moor we have one of the biggest football matches for many years.

Burnley (the under dogs) are taking on the mighty Arsenal in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

The game is live on BBC1 at 1.50pm.

Although not a big football fan I shall be watching. On Radio Lancashire yesterday it reported that thousands of Arsenal fans would be making their way up the motorway from London to the sell out game.

I may have mis-heard as I was only half listening but I thought they said that the last time Burnley beat Arsenal was in 1898. Surely not!!

Probably in different leagues for most years though.

No doubt it will show rows of terraced houses as usual and comment "It's grim up North"

I was in two minds whether to make a trip up today myself. I'm glad I decided not to, I would probably have been caught up in the traffic!

I hope Burnley play better than they have of late.

Good look to them!

The last time Arsenal beat Burnley at Turf Moor was 37 years ago when the Gunners, en route to winning the double, won 2-1 in the old First Division. Burnley's last home win against the Londoners was in December 1973 (2-1). Arsenal's last visit to Turf Moor was on the opening day of the 1975-76 season. The game finished 0-0 in what was the 17-year-old David O'Leary's League debut.

Thanks Leaver I must have mis-heard. Do you know if we have ever beaten them in the FA Cup before?

Burnley used to be such a brilliant team in the 1950/1960's. I remember my Dad went to every home game.

I grew up hearing about Burnley’s glory days! Not seen it in my lifetime…

“Burnley's FA Cup pedigree pales somewhat in comparison with Arsenal's, though they are past winners of the trophy. Their one triumph in the competition came 94 years ago, in 1914, when King George V became the first reigning monarch to attend a final. He saw the Clarets beat Liverpool 1-0 at Crystal Palace.

Don't get me started on the Clarets Pollyanna  I have watched them from being a young lad in the 60,s when they were a great team.
I shall be leaving soon to go up to the Sun to watch it while I have a pint or two,it will be a good atmosphere.
We are not expected to win against probably the best team in Europe at present, but as long as they dont let the fans and themselves down it should be a good match.
UP THE CLARETS

My other half plus son and heir have just set off for the match. I don't have the nerve. There were quite a number of Arsenal fans descending on the Turf when I was coming back from Tescos. But from the number of tickets unsold last week I don't think it'll be a full house. You had to buy a ticket for the Bristol match at the same time so it was quite expensive.
Come on you clarets!

Enjoy David. The Sun should be packed today and what a good atmosphere. I should know I worked there for a short time many moons ago when I lived at Haggate.

I thought they played brilliantly and it was just bad luck that they lost. Most exciting match I've seen for ages. Certainly gave Arsenal a run for their money. Shame they lost.

We watched it on the tv, thought they played real. Son and heir went and really enjoyed it. They could so easily have won.

My Dad supported the Clarets, as he called them, all his life. After we moved to Accrington, (Iwas a firm Stanley supporter), my Dad travelled to Burnley for all the home games.

In his very later years he couldn't go, but we bought tickets for the game closest to his 90th birthday, and my brother and nephew took him. It made his day.

I hold the world (well, Burnley) record for running from Turf Moor to my home on Eastern ave, after a match, in time for Sports Report at 5.00 to check that Burnley had really won ! Couldn't do it now with my knees, anyway the matches don't finish at 4.40 any more !
