Sue/Gloria I watch you both talking to each other on OGFB making suggestions about the origins of surname, the internet has it all, try these

The name "Kippax" indicates that the village was first established in a heavily wooded area of ash trees.

just type "origin (surname)" in your browser, I have just tried half a dozen and it usually finds it
