Well girls i've had it, cant find a remarriage for an Ann or Nanny from 1862 up to 1870, she would be in her late 70's by then, so why on earth would she want to get married again anyway. It says on her death cert in 1876 that she was a widow of a James Walker a farmer, she lived to a ripe old age though did'nt she 89. Your right we are mad

In my experience it would be possible to register a death using a derived name like Nanny for Ann. We have a couple of Elizabeths who appear on their marriage certs as Betty. I don't think they were as fussy about accurate registrations in the earlier years of the registration system.

Stephanie - when you say you have looked for the marriage, have you done a surname search and not found what you want in the results or have you checked page by page through the actual marriage index for Laycock or Walker?

died 1862:

I have found that one Maureen, but it would'nt help me would it if I sent for it, what do you think? I think I will try another tack, on Nanny Walkers death cert it says her late husband was James Walker, would I find anything out if I could find his death cert?

I think the only useful stuf you'd get off these certs is confirmation of the widow's name (or otherwise) which would show whether she actually married either/ both of them.

James's death certificate won't tell you when they married though Stephanie. I don't think I would bother.
