I am told the following came from Burnley library, a book called Briercliffe Farming Community 1829-1832

Briercliffe Farming Community 1829-1832

“ BRIERCLIFFE WITH EXTWISTLE FARMS 1829-1832
Shore Tenement owner R.T. Parker occupier BANISTER LEAVER 20.5 ACRES
BATTIE HOLE 1514 owner Wm Robershaw occupier John Leaver 10acres
Extwistle farm 1851 **northbank occupier Thomas Leaver 12acres “

**my gg grandfather was born here, 1852

This book could be useful when searching for owners and occupiers of some of the larger Briercliffe houses.

Also, the same source supplied this information; I am told this info came from a book written by Roger Frost. Would anyone know if there is anything further about this?

“In 1895 Thomas Leaver whose father was then tenant of Extwistle Hall Farm in the 1820 and 1830 was interviewed by the Burnley Gazette, he recalled that his father regularly went to Burnley market with dairy produce, the prices obtained 8.5d for a pound of Butter, milk .5d a quart, eggs 1s 0d for 26”

I haven't heard of the Briercliffe Farming Community book, so I willl definitely be going for a look at that.
Also, I have Roger's book and will see if I can find the sentence you quoted.

Kris, there are various references to Leaver in Roger's book this is one of them.
In some ways it is unfortunate that the scheme to make Higher Meadow into a recreation ground failed. The field is relatively flat and well drained and has, for a backcloth, the beautiful Roncklehurst Woods. The barn and cottages have been converted into Rose Cottages, by the Leaver family, and are attractive buildings.

I couldn't find the paragraph you quoted so that may be in one of his smaller books. I have an odd one so I will have a look later.
