Hi Steve,
in the 1901 Census, George Pollard aged 24 born Hapton and his wife Martha E Pollard aged 26 born Todmorden, are living at 8 Peel St Padiham with their daughter Elsie aged 1, born Padiham. Both parents are cotton weavers. RG13 piece 3878 fo55 p26
There is a marriage record for George Pollard and Martha Elllen Greenwood (or another lady) in the Burnley District in Q4 1898. Sounds promising?

A little more information about this marriage: according to Lancashire bmd, the marriage of George Pollard and Martha Ellen GREENWOOD was at Burnley, St James. The record is at Preston CE110/3/88.

I am indebted to Charon for the assistance and it now looks like I have been following a wrong path. George and Martha Pollard and their 2 daughters Elsie and Winifred did indeed live at 5 Queen St Harle Syke during the 50's and 60's. I went wrong with George but now believe that he was born in 1877 at Hapton, and Married Martha Ellen Greenwood of Todmorden and they lived in 1901 in Padiham. Charon suggests that George was the son of James (born Blackburn 1837) and Ellen Pollard( born c. 1844 Blackburn)
Need to check further but it looks like this is the path to follow.
Steve

Steve, I am confused. On the other thread you posted the following.

Steve Young wrote:
I have just received a copy of my Grandfathers birth certificate and it lists the family address as 76 Finsley Gate, Habergham Eaves, his name was George born 9 July 1882 son of George and Elizabeth, had 8 brothers and sisters born between 1877 and 1898
Any connection to your search, I am searching for information too
Steve Young

If this is correct then this is his family in the 1891 Census.

1891 Census - RG12; Piece: 3367; Folio 23; Page 13
120 Finsley Gate, Habergham Eaves, Burnley
Elizabeth Pollard, Head, Widow, 56yrs, ? Cotton Spinner, b. Lowerhouse?, Lancs
Martha A. Pollard, Daughter, 22yrs, Weaver, b. Burnley

1891 Census - RG12; Piece: 3367; Folio 23; Page 13
122 Finsley Gate, Habergham Eaves, Burnley
George Pollard, Head, Mar, 33yrs, ? Engine ?, b. Burnley
Elizabeth Pollard, Wife, 35yrs, b. ?, Lancs
Susannah Pollard, Daughter, 14yrs, Cotton Weaver, b. Burnley
John C. Pollard, Son, 12yrs, Scholar, b. Burnley
Elizabeth A. Pollard, Daughter, 10yrs, Scholar, b. Burnley
George H? Pollard, Son, 8yrs, Scholar, b. Burnley
Martha Pollard, Daughter, 6yrs, Scholar, b. Burnley
Walter Pollard, Son, 4yrs, b. Burnley
Joseph Pollard, Son, 2yrs, b. Burnley

Same family in the 1901 Census: RG13; Piece: 3870; Folio: 82; Page: 8

If this is incorrect, please provide George Pollards date of death and we can work backwards.

Leaver,

see my post of 11 Apr and Portia's follow-up for what Steve and I now believe is his grandfather's family in 1901. The George you have, and the one Steve at first thought was the right one, is too young to have married in 1898 and is still unmarried in the 1901 census.

Steve has submitted some more pictures of his family. They are at the above link and are the last on the page for the time being. For some reason the system has stopped listing alphabetically. :?:

As well as the family photos, there is a receipt for purchase of a plot at Haggate http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Grave%20Stones/Haggate%20Chapel/Y/Young.htm

Elsie Pollards shop http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Photo%20Archive/Shopping/Ladies%20Tailor.htm

Finally a membership card for the working mens club http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Photo%20Archive/Briercliffe/Briercliffe%20Working%20Mens%20Club.htm

Thanks Steve.

I have been away from the site for quite a while due to illness, but now I am back.
I am looking for anyone with information on the Pollards of 5 Queens St Harle Syke from the 1950-1960's.
George b.1877 and his wife Martha Ellen nee Greenwood lived there with their daughters Elsie and Winifred.
I can now confirm George is the son of James Pollard b.c.1838 in Lancaster (Blackburn) D. 1877 Burnley. and Ellen nee Marsden b. c. 1834.
Any help would be appreciated.
