Just wondering about this Mel. Margaret Bolton is my Great Great Grandma. What relation does that make me to you? I'm running a bit low on rellies and need to make some more, only having a mother, father, grandma and uncle in total. No cousins around and no siblings now, oh I also have 2 children. I am intrigued though.

If I have got it right, we are 5th cousins. I don't have much info coming forward from Henry Pollard though.

 If you're my 5th cousin, where are all the rest!!

The Pollards are an easy bunch to sort out post Henry Pollard.

William Pollard married Margaret Bolton and had 2 sons, Henry born 1 Dec 1870 and John born 1872. I haven't nailed anything onto John post 1901 and I may have to wait until 1911 to find out. My grandma never mentioned him so we do not know if he didn't make it to 1912. John Pollard is a fairly popular name to chase about on the death records for Burnley area, if he died at that time he would have died in Barrowford. I might have got such a death in 1908.

Henry is my maternal greatgrandfather. He married Dorothy Brown on 2 Dec 1903 at St Thomas' Barrowford. Witnesses were Janey Brown who married one of the Nutter family and John Pollard - so we know he was alive then.

Henry and Dorothy had two children, Margaret Ann Pollard born 1905 to 1995 (of the perm fame) and Mary Isabel Pollard born 1908 to 1987- my maternal grandma. Margaret Ann Pollard married Herbert Greenwood and they have living children. Mary Isabel Pollard married James Slater and they had a living daughter - my mum. Both Margaret Ann and Mary Isabel married in 1930 at St Thomas' Barrowford.

William Pollard was a stone Mason
Henry Pollard was a weaver
Mary Isabel Pollard was a weaver
Unsure about early occupation for Margaret Ann although later I think as Margaret Greenwood she had or ran a decoraters shop in Nelson.
Herbert Greenwood is a complete mystery to me.
James Slater was a tackler as was his father and his grandfather before him.

I'll put some information up soon like I promised and I can take you to a vicar in Old Hutton, to Yeoman farmers in Gargrave and beyond and also to Calico Printers in Habergham Eaves.

Julie, you don't mention Edwin Bolton, son of Margaret. Are you aware of him?

I have a baptism for him somewhere and I'm almost certain it names Margaret as his mother.

I've found the baptism, Mother is definitely Margaret Bolton, no father named (although I do have a marriage for an Edwin Bolton, it remains to be proved if it is this Edwin Bolton!)

Sorry, I don't know how I missed these answers re the Pollards and Boltons. No, I didn't know Edwin was one of Margaret's. I wondered whose he was and was was going to get round to asking you eventually. I didn't have him down as one of hers as he wasn't living with Margaret and William so I hadn't made the connection.

Sorry if you thought I was ignoring this, just found it when I clicked on the wrong bit.

I'm off to amend the tree. Where did you find the christening for him??

No problem Julie. I wasn't feeling ginored. some topics do sometimes slip under the radar. I had forgotten about this to be honest.

I think it was St Thomas - are you ready for the emails yet? All is revealed in them

:D Thanks Mel. It struck me that you knew and now I know that Henry and John Pollard had a half brother, but I wonder if they ever knew! It wouldn't surprise me to find out that they didn't; he was probably treated as a cousin with him living with the Boltons. I haven't found him in the 1891 census, not even by looking for his children's names. I bet that Ancestry have mis-spelt the surname (again).
