Both Sons Dead
Burnley Family's Sacrifices

Both sons of Mr. and Mrs. Pedley, formerly of 86, Reed-street, Burnley, and now of 5, Hampden-street, have sacrificed their lives for the country's cause. The older son, Corpl. Walter Pedley, of the 5th Batt. east Lancashire Regt., died at malta on Nov. 16th 1915, from pneumonia and appendicitis.
The younger brother, Pte. Francis (Frank) Robert Pedley, was in the 10th Batt. Scottish Rifles, and went into action at Loos on Sept. 25th 1915. He was reported missing from that date, and now the War Office have sent his parents official notice presuming that he died in action on that day. He was 18 years old, and before enlisting was a packer at Messrs. Pickles' whittlefield shed. his officer wrote to say he was a good and brave soldier, and that he was hit during the engagement, but no trace of him was discovered afterwards. He was connected with Hollingreave Congregational Church and School.

younger Brother Missing

Pte. Frank Pedley (16998), of the 10th batt. Scottish Rifles, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Pedley, of 86, reed-street, Burnley, has been missing since September 25th. In another column we report the death of his elder brother, corpl. Walter Pedley. Pte. Frank, who was 18 years old, was a packer at messrs. Picles Whittlefield shed when was broke out. He took part in the fighting on the opening day of the recent advance in France, and has not been heard of since. His officer has written to say he was a good and brave soldier, and that he wa shit during the engagement, but no trace of him has been discovered since then. He was connected with Hollingreave Congregational Church and School.
