Hi everyone! Did you have a nice Christmas?

Mel and I are talking about a new project and we need your help!! We would like to do something like the Burnley in the Great War site that will eventually include all Briercliffe seaman / airman / marines / soldiers from the Boer War, WW1 and WW2. I Would imagine more than a few of you have photographs, postcards and medals from Briercliffe relations who served during WW2, if you are lucky you will have some from WW1, and if you are very lucky you will have a few items from Boer War soldiers!! I am not sure what format we will use, but a couple of examples can be seen here - http://jp29.org/2heroes.htm / http://burnleyinthegreatwar.info/burnle ... 302370.htm and here http://www.rootsweb.com/~ww1can/peered.htm
What do we need from you? To start with we will need a list of any Briercliffe service men, Regiment name, Rank, military number and address if known. Don’t panic if this information is unknown as I have a couple of photos of Briercliffe soldiers and I only know their name and nothing about their regiment, Rank etc. and I will be adding them to the project. This is in its early stages so if you have any suggestions please post them here!! One last point before I go. I know a few women who served as non combatants but I don’t know how to find their information. Any ideas, do you think these women should be added to the site? http://www.rootsweb.com/~canmil/ww1/women/fem.htm

Kris and I have finally got this project off the ground.
http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Soldiers.htm
Suggestions, comments, criticisms welcome.

Also, if anyone has any info regarding anyone who served during any of the wars that we can add to the site, it would be much appreciated.

Hi
You do have photos in the Halstead Collection of my grandfather, James Halstead from WW1 and my dad, Jack from WW2. Also, that clipping you sent me, Mel, about Willie Mason from WW1.....

Could the latter be posted into that collection near other photos of Willie?

Thanks....

Sue

I do Sue, I also have the cards that your granddad sent. I plan on those being in the armed forces section on the page that will be dedicated to James Halstead. Jack will also have one though I have not yet got around to the WW2 cuttings.

The Willie Mason article will go into the armed forces section but it can also go in The Halstead Collection. It was through collecting info for this project that I came across the Willie Mason article.

If I can find more details of him Kris, yes. I like to know regiment etc. too where possible otherwise it is just duplicating the picture onto another page.
It won't be this week now though. Darlings announcement yesterday means we have loads of work to do.

The man in the photo (I think) is in the Fusiliers. Ancestry has eleven Fred Edmondson’s in the medal records, and only two can be considered possibilities when I look at the hat badge.

Fred Edmondson, Northumberland Fusiliers, 64572
Fred Edmondson, Lancashire Fusiliers, 14784 / 40920

The man in the Lancashire Fusiliers has his service records on Ancestry. He was born at Colne, 1896 and lived at 57 Newmarket street, Colne. Fathers name is Thomas.
