What matters is: how many matches, and how many new-found cousins? Good luck!

I still think it is the best site by far for finding matches. I don't mind entering a person twice but wondered if I had missed something at first.

Charon, any idea why the tick for some matches is red and for others it is blue? (I have added more names and found another match :) )

Mel,

I can't remember! It's a long time since I found a new match, and mine are all blue, though I think I remember red ones at some time past. Perhaps the red ones are those where you haven't contacted the "owner" yet?

Anyway, congratulations on your new match!

No, I have made contact and it is still red. I wondered if it was for a match find during that particular session of research but having logged out and in again, it is still red. It's not a problem, I was just curious.

Thinking about it - this newest match is a blood relative only whereas the others were direct ancestors. Maybe that is the reason?

I am now in the process of adding Lyndon's lot. Anyone for Smith?! :?

No, it's not blood relative/direct ancestor either! I have some of each and they're all blue.

I do hope it's not something important we're missing!

I had a look in the FAQ's but it doesn't say anything about a blue tick. It says "When you click the Search button on your My Ancestors page we'll let you know in a matter of seconds whether we've found any new matches - we'll mark them with a red tick"

Ah - so perhaps it turns blue once you've clicked on it to find out who the match belongs to. That would explain why I haven't had any red ones for a long time.

I have 4 contacts so far. 3 of them (1 household) are blue. The newest 1 is the red one which is why I wondered if it was a session thing. Having logged in on a different computer, it is still red and the older matches are still blue. I have clicked on them all and made contact. Nothing has changed. I think I will email them. I'm sure it doesn't matter but I'm more curious than ever now!

I wonder if it is the census ref. The red one is 1841, the blue are 1881.

No, it's not that either. I have matches in both and they are all blue.

We're going to feel a bit silly when it turns out to be something absolutely obvious!

I've contacted them to find out.

Could one be a paying subscriber?

Just going back to the DNA testing and the talk at Astley Hall. The gentleman giving the talk was talking about 12, 32 and 64 points to match against. My scientifically bent neighbour who is very knowledgeable on the subject says you can have 3,000 points. That being so, I would have thought spending money trying to find 64 matches would maybe be a bit of a waste.

Crikey! Yes 64 points sounds a complete waste of money doesn't it!

I've had a reply from Lost Cousins already (very impressed especially as it is a bank holiday today).
They say

"Red ticks highlight new matches; after a few days they change to grey or blue. Please see the Help section on your My Cousins page for this and other information about how the system works."

How recent are your most recent matches Charon? I will now be watching my matches closely.
