Talking of Burnley library on one of the other topics has reminded me Rex, I didn't see your book in the display cabinet in Burnley library. I purposely looked for it but there wasn't one there.

They have bought some for sale, and have one donated for reference. If you are in again and wished to nudge them, that's alright by me ! I think they have a system whereby some things are for sale in the reference library, downstairs, others at ground level in the main lending part. Maybe it has fallen between two stools, not literally I hope....

Having just read this booklet again (the first time was while I was away and I think I had drank a little too much wine to take it in properly!) I am quite surprised by the associations between Haggate Baptist Chapel, Wheatley Lane Inghamites and Colne Baptist.
I have Sutcliffes from both Briercliffe and Barrowford and they used the Haggate and Wheatley Chapels respectively.
I wonder if it is through their religion that my Barrowford Sutcliffes first met my Briercliffe Sutcliffes? (They could have been related of course though I haven't confirmed this theory...yet).

Rex - where you mention Colne Baptist, is this the same as Colne Particular Baptist or are they separate Chapels? (Apologies if this is answered later in the book, I haven't quite finished my second airing).

Yes, the early Baptist chapel in Colne was 'Particular', though I don't use the term very much in the booklet. I don't think that Colne had by contrast a 'General' Baptist chapel in the period covered by my booklet, whereas Burnly did (Ebenezer). There is some basic discussion in the booklet about the differences between the two types.

Was Hill Lane known as Ebenezer? Genuki refers to it as

Yes, I think Hill Lane was also known as Ebenezer, and it was an offshoot of Haggate in the 1830s.

I was referring to Ebenezer on Colne Rd in Burnley (where I attended Sunday School as a child, kicking and screaming !)

Thanks, I did realise that Rex but I was curious about the Hill Lane reference on Genuki as I don't think I have seen it anywhere else.

Roger mentions in his book "The Ebenezer Baptist Chapel on Hill Lane is the second to be used for religious worship, though parts of the older building remain in the fabric of the nearby Sunday School".

Rex, I was wrong! Your book is on display on Burnley library. I expected to see it in the reference library but it isn't, it's in the lending library. I only found out by accident yesterday when I went to buy Walter Bennett's 'History of Burnley' Parts 1 & 2 (book 1). I assumed that this type of thing would be on sale downstairs but I was redirected upstairs to the lending library.
It seems an odd place to put them to me. I would never think to go into the lending library with not being a local. People (like me) who use the reference library only might not be aware that it is available.

Your book also got a mention last night at the Society meeting. John was informing everyone that he has it for sale, I said that I have it advertised here on the site. I thought it was a good turn out last night.

Thanks Mel, Burnley Library have for some time I think had a dual approach to local items, some being downstairs outside the reference library, others inside the lending library on the ground floor.

I had a second lot printed, so have some still. Also with John, the Heritage Centre, and probably Burnley and Colne Libraries.
