BRIERCLIFFE SOLDIER KILLED IN FRANCE JUST OVER A MONTH.
One more of Briercliffe's sons has made the supreme sacrifice. On Sunday morning, the wife of Pte. Charlie Pickles received official intimation that he had been killed in action in France on February 15th.
Pte. Pickles, who was in the 8th East Lancashire Regiment, only joined up last November, and was sent out to France on January 12th.
Thus he had only been there just over a month when he met his death.
In private life, Private Pickles helped his father with the coal dealing business. He has two other brothers in the Army – William, who enlisted in August, 1914, and has been in France since June, 1915, and John, who joined in January, 1915, and has just been sent to France.
