MR. H. WHITAKER

The death took place last Friday at his home, 96 Burnley-road, Harle Syke, of Mr. Herbert Whitaker (44), who was employed by the Walshaw Mill Co. until his illness seven years ago. Keenly interested in sport, he played with the Briercliffe team in the Tuesday Bowling League, and for a period acted as umpire in the Sunday School Cricket League. A staunch supporter of the Burnley F.C., he was also responsible for the training of Briercliffe St. James’s football team. He was a member of the Conservatives’ whist drive committee, and frequently acted as M.C. He saw service with the armed forces during the last war and was discharged owing to heart trouble. Sympathy is felt for his widow and four daughters in their loss. The Rev F. Jones, Vicar of St. Andrew’s offered prayers at the home and officiated at the internment in St. James’s burial ground yesterday (Tuesday). J. Atkinson, Harle Syke, carried out the arrangements.
