When I first had my DNA results, my ethnic results showed 27% (I think) Irish. Then they did an update and that dropped to 17%. They did another update last week. I'm now up to 32%. :? The difference has me baffled when you consider the English results they have pinpoint me to Lancs and the Potteries which is absolutely bang on.
The Irish results do narrow down the region to the counties I was always told (or research suggests) our lot came from. Now that my bat surveys are coming to an end for their hibernation, I'm hoping to throw myself into research over the winter months and narrow the Irish lot a little more. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Mel, did mine a few years ago, I wish they’d do a discount on membership, might rejoin then. Don’t think Find My Past will do any membership offers with the 1921 census coming out early next year, even if they charge to view it, it will be very popular.

I've just bought a kit for mum. It means I can separate dads line from hers. Hoping that, as she'll have more Irish in her blood, it may lead to more/some answers...I can live in hope!

The 1921 is not going to be part of a subscription initially. Images will be £3.50, transcripts £2.50. I believe there is a 10% discount for those with annual Pro membership.

Someone on facebook contacted Ancestry to ask when they would have the 1921, the response gave the impression that it would be the end of the year so I suppose FMP will add it to subscriptions then.

I won't be surprised if Ancestry do a free access weekend for thanksgiving.

I find my Irish roots really difficult, I’m back in the 1700s and there’s very little left of those times that wasn’t destroyed. I can do quite a bit of surmising but very little proving. There are a couple of us with the same common ancestor born c1750 and neither knows more than the other.

I can't get going on the Ireland records - nothing concrete enough to work with.

Ordered a test for Lyndon now as well. I'm not expecting anything shocking there. Staffordshire and Stourbride areas I think.

When I first had my DNA results, nearly 2 years ago, I messaged a DNA match, not my closest match but he jumped out at me and was connected in my Irish lot. He replied to me tonight. Nearly 2 years! Never give up
Anyway, he has a photo of my gt gt grandma, she died in 1921. She has a lovely face, kind eyes. I can't help looking at those eyes and wondering how she coped with the tragedies that took two of her grown up children. One was killed by his wife and the other committed suicide. That said, I suspect the picture was taken before one of the tragedies. Possibly both.

How interesting, and how sad. He’s now opened up a whole new lot of searching for you to do, and hopefully a whole lot of new information to find. Enjoy.

He doesn't yet know about the tragedies. I'll be sharing articles with him today. I'm hoping he can shed light on the Roscommon link - fingers crossed his gran told him where in Roscommon!
