Yes I have Mel just a few days ago. No surprise for me to learn I am 92% British. What is a surprise however is that a 3rd cousin sharing my surname who suggested/persuade ! Me that I take the DNA test does not appear on my matches, nor does his sister. This to me is a puzzle as we are both certain beyond a doubt that we shared forbears. In addition I have roughly 270 people, also sharing my surname, all Lancastrian and over 90% from Burnley who dont appear either. I have only 2 close matches both from my maternal side. Don’t understand it.

It's a bit baffling! I have now joined a few Ancestor Projects on GEDmatch. I have no idea what this means! I'm sure it will become clear as mud soon

Hadn't thought of joining that Mel, it'll be interesting to see who or what crops up.

I've been adding my raw data wherever I can. MyHeritage is another one. Some features are only available if you pay a fee but you can view matches, and I think contact them. without paying.
I also added it to the FindMyPast DNA section (livingdna.com - it is an external link) and FamilytreeDNA. Apologies if I have already said all this on a previous post.

I'm finidng GEDmatch a bit confusing at the moment. I'm hoping to have a better look at it at the weekend as we have no plans. From a link on GEDmatch, I have joined a group on Facebook (Irish research) that matches specifically to people who are related based on the DNA and being group members so contact should be almost guaranteed. This group has created a 'program' that uses the GEDmatch matches and narrows them down to group members...that's my current understanding of it. I may be wrong! I joined at the beginning of the week but not had chance to run the match thing as I want to understand what I am doing first.

Oh I'd be interested in the Irish one, I might try that.

Have a look at the Ancestor Projects on the GEDmatch site. There are several that may interest you. You do need to upload the raw data before you can join the projects as you need a kit number. When you do it, follow the facebook link. I had no response from membership requests on the GEDmatch site itself.

I too have just done my DNA with ancestry. I felt sure Gloria would turn up as a relative because of the Kippax etc but havn't found her on my list. I too have a private tree. Very cross to discover people have adopted my2 x great grandfather. Little do they know that he wasn't born with the name he used in later life.

Gill, I’ll look on ancestry at my list of relatives and see if you’ve been added.

I find it quite annoying how people just add names willynilly without doing their research. It's my only reason for keeping my tree provate. There is someone on Ancestry who copied my entire tree some years ago, including lines that were not connected. She has now added to it. I can see, without looking hard, lots of errors that she has made. And sadly, lots of people have linked in to her errors.

I’ve had that Mel, and it is really annoying.

Gill, they haven’t added you to my dna list on ancestry, remind me of our common ancestor and I’ll try a search under their name.

Kippax. I think Foulds too and maybe Nutter.I have found a link still living in Burnley with whom I share a Gt Grandmother. Because she stayed in Burnley she knew my grandmothers siblings which is interesting. Like all of you I find it hilarious that people just find a name and put it on their tree.

You’re definitely not on my list Gill. I wonder how often they update the lists.
