Well-Known Harle Syker Dies in Hospital

A well-known Briercliffe family has suffered bereavement by the death, last Saturday, of Mr. Marmaduke Miller Sutcliffe, of 26, Queen-street, Harle Syke, at the age of 63 years. Mr. Sutcliffe was taken ill at his home last Friday afternoon and, though he was taken to the Victoria Hospital, he died shortly after midnight before an operation could be performed. A native of Burnley Lane, he had lived in Briercliffe since boyhood, and had been employed by the Haggate Weaving Co. since he commenced work. Although he was not a member of the Briercliffe Glee Union, he was greatly interested in its activities. For a long number of years he was a member of the Briercliffe Central Club. In his younger days he attended Elim Methodist Sunday School. He was a Liberal. A good deal of his time in late years had been spent in poultry-keeping and gardening. He leaves a widow and three sons. The funeral took place yesterday in the Haggate Baptist burial ground.
