Mel,

may I ask, what's your interest in this family? Mine is that I believe William's granddaughter Catherine b c1879 was the mother of my aunt by marriage Annie Parker Stanworth (married name Cooper) b Q3 1902. As I've mentioned earlier, she was known among the Coopers as Annie Blacko, and her brother Clifford Parker Stanworth b 1905 was iving in Blacko around 1930. If I have it right, their father was Abraham Stanworth b Q3 1875 in Burnley and Catherine was his second wife (he is a widower in the 1901 Census, having married Hanah East in Q2 1899: she died in Q3 1900) An A Stanworth of Springwood Blacko is listed in the telephone directories as early as 1922 and as late as 1952. My cousin, Annie Stanworth's daughter, tells me that she and Clifford were always very proud of having the name of Parker. Any idea why?

I can only presume, but a possible reason for being proud of the Parker name is a connection to Robert Townley Parker.

It's actually his wife that I've been tracing. I believe she was Elizabeth Barker born 22 June 1821 in Briercliffe., daughter of Robert Barker and Betty?
I was looking for the census because it is the only one missing for William in my file. I like to have them all from birth to death where possible.

Mel, The only William Parker who was a farmer by occupation who I have found on any 1891 census, lived alone as a widower in Farington Lancashire, but they had his date of birth as 1823 which made him 68 not 71.

Leaver,

thanks for the thought and the link. I recently came across a Parker (and other families) website
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.anc ... andjroots/ which links my Bannisters to the Parkers in the 16th Century by the marriage of Charles B to Ellen P about 1602. It takes the Parker line back to 1215 and forward to the present with Lord Justice Roger Parker b1928. It does include Robert Townley Parker - but not, Mel, either our William or any relevant Barkers. Of course, families often imagine themselves to be related to celebrities of the same name!

I saw that Stephanie. I've not discounted it completely as 3 years difference is nothing but, as he was buried at St James, I think he will still be in Briercliffe or Burnley.

I've not given up on William yet. I may just go back to the old fashioned method of looking page by page, district by district. These internet resources make searching the census so easy, well...until there is either a transcription error or a letter that someone thinks is something it's not!!

Mel,

I've found him! 1891, RG12/3371 fo 142, p4. He's still at Walshaw, widowed, with son Robert. Awful handwriting - goodness knows how he was transcribed.

Thanks Gloria.

Mel, it was useful for me as it made me learn how to search by address. Luckily William was still in the same place as 10 years previously, so in the event I found him on the fourth page I looked at.

I reckon genealogy is a good anti-Alzheimer exercise - and that's only one of my many excuses for spending so much time at it!

I don't agree with the anti-Alzheimer exercise. My memory is truly awful, Julie in Norfolk can vouch for that following very recent correspondence!
