My great grandfather Joseph Hartley has a pigeon on his gravestone which I think is in Lane bottom. (he died 1913) I heard that he judged pigeons at Crystal palace but I cannot find whether he was a pigeon racer or a judge of fancy pigeons. He and his son and family lived at Hanson Tenements and were registered there on the 1901 and 1911 censuses.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I can find a few mentions in the British Newspaper Archive, winning prizes, possibly at Crystal Palace, but not evidence he was a judge.

Might be worth a month's subscription ?
