Does anyone have any insight into German research? Mother in law has a family who went to Hanover in the mid 1850's (child born UK 1853, child born Hanover 1856 according to UK census) and returned during the same decade. Mum died around time of travel I think....her last child was the one born 1856, he remarried in the UK in 1857. I have not yet found a death for her but with a 2 year window, it shouldn't be THAT hard! Struggling to find travel records for this too. No sign of passport applications.

I guess when you say he remarried, you mean the father, not the child!
What were the names and dates of birth of the parents? and where were they from? There is a bit of a German database on Rootsweb but when I looked at it it's very small.

Thanks Maureen. Yes it was the father and not the child :?

They were called Fernyhough and were from Stoke on Trent. I'll check out the link later

I checked the Hamburg passenger lists for the years concerned and found nothing. But then they didn't necessarily travel via Hamburg.
