Saturday 07 September 1861


BRIERCLIFFE - To be Sold by Auction, by
Mr. A. G. Denbigh, at the Sun Inn, in Bridge-street, in Burnley, in the County of Lancaster, on Thursday the 12th day of September, 1861, at 7 o'clock in the evening, subject to such conditions as will then be produced. All that
MESSUAGE or DWELLING HOUSE, occupied as a Beerhouse, called "Cross Guns," together with the vacant LAND, outbuildings, situate near Burwains, in Briercliffe, in the manor of Ightenhill, in the said county, and adjoining the road leading from Catlow to Haggate, occupied by Richard Walton.
The premises are Copyhold of Inheritance of the said Manor of Ightenhill.
For further particulars and information, application may be made to Mr. George Whitehead, of Habergham Eaves, agent, or at the Offices of
MR. HOLMES,
Solicitor, Burnley
30th August 1861

I wondered where it might be...I did wonder if it might be the building that Roger had pictures of that was at the top of Robinhouse Lane (is that the right lane??)

I've looked in Roger's book and he has Robin Cottages as the site of the Sportsman. Could it have been in the bottom near the river where Pendelfin was started? I seem to remember him mentioning a brewery there in year dot...
