| Post subject: | Briercliffe ancestors |
Hello! My surname is Briercliffe, and we have always been told that our family originated in Briercliffe, and that our family home was called Burwains. My sister and I are trying to research our ancestors, and I would be very grateful for any information anyone might have on our family. My Grandmother's maiden name was Kathleen Briercliffe, and she passed this name onto my father. Unfortunately, this is as far back as we can trace our lineage on this side. We are keen to know who our great grandparents might be, and if we have any relations still in Lancashire. Any information on what happened to Burwains would also be much appreciated! Many Thanks Rosie Briercliffe |

This was the 3rd house on the site. the Briercliffe family lived here from the 12th century to the middle of the 18th century. |

In Roger Frost's book there are many comments on the Briercliffe family and Burwains one of them being List of tenants of Briercliffe 1443 Name---- "Lawrence" de Briercliffe Probable farm----Burwains If you have access to a library you should be able to borrow it, and I believe it is going to be reprinted this year. Also from the book, in an inventory of 1700 Lawrence Briercliffe of Burwains had "one horse and furniture", and one cart with "three pair wheels" in his Wainhouse, at his death in 1700. |

There's a new site on the web - http://burwains.ning.com It's a Briercliffe and Britcliffe family interest site and we're attempting to link every known Briercliffe (or Britcliffe) back to the pedigree charts in the Ernest Axon booklet of 1918. Non-family members with interests in the name(s) are welcome to log on and we'll be happy to have guests from this site on that one too. Mike Briercliffe |
