Hello,

I am doing research on the Thomas part of my family.
So far from census and BMD records I have found:

Richard and Ann Thomas both c1816 who had four children all born in Briercliffe: Mary c1842, Martha c1845, Robert H. c1850 and James c1855.
It appears that theri daughter Martha had an illigitimate child; John Edwin born c1864 in Burnley. He married a Mary Hannah Thornton of Bradley, Yorkshire in March 1884 and died at 45 Pritchard Street in May 1951. They had 10 children all born in Briercliffe: Gertrude 1884 (my gg grandmother), Hilda Mary c1887, Marion c1889 -1904?, Annie Cons. c1891, Kathleen c1895, Helen c1898, Nellie c1901, May c1902, Harold c1903 and Ethel.

Can anyone tell me any more or take me any further back?
Any help would be greatly apprecaited
Issy

Hi
On the 1841 census Richard Thomas is living at Southfield,Gt Marsden with his wife Nanny and daughter Mary, occupation cotton weaver, all born in county.
On the site
www.lancashirebmd.org.uk there is a marriage at St Peters Burnley for Richard Thomas to Nanny Hargreaves in 1839 ref CE111/1/240.If you obtain this cert is should supply the names of the fathers of both Richard and Ann.
On the familysearch.org. there is a christening for Richard Thomas son of Robert and Mary which took place at St Bartholomew's Colne, 3 Sept 1815
Hope this helps
Gilly

Hi Gilly,

I have come across this Richard Thomas but I am not sure this is the right one. I have his wife as Ann from the 1871 and 1861 census which show them living at Lane Bottom, Briercliffe with their children Martha, Mary, Robert H and James.
Working backwards from what I definately know Martha was on John Edwin's birth certificate as his mother, but he did live with his aunt Mary on the 1881 census. So I am pretty sure the one I have is correct.
Thanks for your time and help anyway.
Issy
