Hi. I’m new on here. A lot of my family were from briercliffe and surrounding areas. Pickles,Crabtree and Heap. My family tree is a work in progress. I think there is a lot for me to find out about my ancestors from briercliffe, but don’t really no where to start.any advice would be welcome. Thanks |

You will find all three of these surnames on the home page under family trees, well worth a look. Also it’s worth doing a search under church records. |

Great , thanks. I had a look at the trees.found my Heap ancestors going way back on there. But couldn’t quite match Crabtree and pickles with ones on there.although from briercliffe.I will have a try with church records.thanks. I know some relatives are buried in haggate baptist church, but think I read somewhere that has been demolished. Is that correct? If so what happened to to graves?once again. Thanks |

Yes you’re right Haggate Chapel is no longer there, but the graves are. |

Hi Nigel We have images of gravestones in Briercliffe on the main site. I had switched them off (I am trying to build a new site and if I switch off what I have transferred, it makes it easier for me to come back to. Unfortunately the project is taking me an age as I am working more hours these days) Anyway, Haggate can be found here http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Grave%20Stones/Haggate%20Chapel.htm Other Churchyards can be found here https://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Grave%20Stones.htm Not searchable but indexed alphabetically and by no means complete! There are also transcripts withing the forum. The forum search should help with those. |

Thanks Mel I have had a look at some of the grave stones and they relate to my family. I will go through all the pickles and see if I can link them to my family. Thanks Nigel |

lan-opc has a good set of parish register for St James: http://lan-opc.org.uk/Burnley/Brierclif ... index.html Plenty of Crabtrees and Pickleses. They have records for many other churches in the area too, so it's worth casting your net a bit wider. Good hunting! Dave |
