My special interest here is Taylor Pollard who was born in Habergham Eaves. His father's name is John and he was a calico printer. Taylor seems to have spent most of hiw working life in one labouring job or another. John's wife was Ellen.

Taylor married a lady called Hannah Spencer and they had a few children between them. William is my prime interest as he moved to Barrowford. William was a stone mason.

As with the Slater family, I will put the results of my efforts up here. I hope that there are others to whom this will be of interest.

Hi Julie,
welcome to the site. I never did send you that Sutcliffe stuff!!!

I have a Pollard who married a Sutcliffe, is it of interest? She was Ellen Sutcliffe but I can't just remember his name...possibly a Mathew.

Hello again.

Its not ringing any bells at the moment, I'll give you a shout if it turns up as a positive. I'm ashamed to say that I have more names than brain power at the moment. I'm just going through the card index system, updating and neatening it up as I go. It gets a bit obsessive with me and I need to put stuff down sometimes else I get nothing done.

Henry Pollard 1 Dec 1870 to 1951 b Barrowford m Dorothy Brown 2 Dec 1903
William Pollard 1844 to 1904 (I think) b Habergham Eaves m Margaret Bolton 24 Oct 1870
Taylor Pollard b 21 Apr 1821 Habergham Eaves m Hannah Spencer 1 Jan 1841
John Pollard b circa 1785 Habergham Eaves (from age on census) m Ellen ?? possibly Taylor? He was a calico printer

Is John the son of Richard Pollard and Maria Airton

That's better putting some dates to them. Silly me

Hi there

I am just ferreting around in that sort of time, looking at brothers and sisters etc and children of brothers or sisters. Your Alice may well be a daughter of a brother of one of mine. I will let you know.

Cheers

I haven't tracked Alice Pollard down at the moment but I have just found another son of Taylor Pollard, John Pollard ( damn common name that) born about 1849 at (I suspect) Habergham Eaves. So far I have only found him on the 1851 census and not anywhere else (including deaths) so I'm partly on the hunt for him but I have also had some luck with another surname for Westmorland - Theobalds. Someone from a Westmoreland site has just given me some brilliant information.
If anyone needs Westmorland information, give the following a try:

Don't know whether you've picked it up or not but there's a Taylor Pollard death on Lancashire BMD
POLLARD Taylor
Age 47
Registered at Burnley
Records at Preston BU/54/78

Hannah appears on the 1871 census at Ceder (?) St Burnley:

Hannah Pollard 54, head, widow, born Downham
Alice Pollard 16, daur, unm, cotton rover, born Padiham
Mary Heap 29, daur, widow, cotton spinner, born Cliviger
Elizth Allie Heap 8, daur, scholar, born Cliviger
Ellen Ann Heap 6, daur, scholar, born Burnley

I suspect the last two should actually read 'g'daur'.

Any connection to your search, I am searching for information too

I’ve just noticed that in her item of 10 March, Julie implies a marriage between Richard Pollard and Maria Airton, some time before 1785. I believe the parents of my 3xGg’mother Isabella Airton were Thomas Airton and Mary Pollard, married at St Bartholomew Colne on 31.5.1784, and I wonder whether there could be a family connection.
Thomas Airton was baptised in Burnley in 1757, and Isabella was married to Daniel Nutter in Burnley on 12.12.1813 so it would seem probable these Airtons lived in Burnley (or Habergham Eaves).

Charon, have you come forward with the line of Isabella Airton married to Daniel Nutter in 1813? I have a Daniel Nutter married to Sarah Ellen Veevers on May 10, 1883, at Brunswick United Methodist Chapel in Burnley. Daniel was born c1860. His father was also a Daniel Nutter, deceased at the time of the marriage. Possibly some connection with yours?

Joan

Joan,

many thanks for that. The children I have for Daniel and Isabella Nutter m 1813 are Robert 1814, Nanny 1816 and Alice 1818 (those three from Haggate Baptist Chapel records) Benjamin c1830 (liling with Isabella in 1841) and John 1819 in with whose family she is living in 1851, described as John's mother. I have found two grandsons named Daniel: Robert's son Daniel Nutter b c1849 and Alice's son Daniel Bannister b c1837. I haven't been able to connect any of these with the Daniels you mention. But time will tell........
Thanks again
Charon
