BURNLEY MAN APPOINTED HEADMASTER
Mr. Bertram Leaver, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Leaver, of 409, Manchester road, Burnley, has been unanimously appointed headmaster of the Senior Mixed Church School, at Malton, Yorkshire.
Mr. Leaver spent his early life in Burnley under the guidance and tuition of his father, who was headmaster of St. James’s School for 34 years until his retirement on superannuation in 1925. Mr. Leaver has been first assistant at the Senior Mixed Church School, Malton, since leaving St. John’s College, York, twenty years ago. He has taken a very active part in public affairs at Malton, and is keenly interested in the British Legion, social services, Young Men’s League, Freemasonry and local sporting activities.
As accomplished musician, he has been the pianist for the Malton orchestra for many years, and is the “alto lead” in the Malton Male Voice Quartile, a combination which has won various prizes in Northern Musical Festivals. On the recommendation of H.M. Inspector, Mr. Leaver has been granted, in the past, free special summer courses in book-binding and decoration at Scarborough, geography and advanced art at Balliol College, and history at Cambridge University. Since the reorganisation schemes were inaugurated a few years ago he has specialised in English, geography, history, advanced art and practical music.

Ronald Thomas Leaver (1899-1964) married Elizabeth Alice Wells (1895-1961).

Ronald Thomas Leaver (1899-1964) was the son of Fred Leaver (1865-1941) and Amelia Barker Taylor (1866-1945).

Fred Leaver lived at 7 Queen street, Briercliffe and he was the Headmaster of Haggate Baptist school.

1961 – LEAVER Elizabeth Alice of the Crossings 19 Ormond road, Wantage, Berkshire (wife of Ronald Thomas Leaver) died 29 July 1961 at The Bear Hotel, Wantage. Probate Oxford, 25 September to the said Ronald Thomas Leaver, retired government stores inspector. Effects £6,209 1s. 4d.

1964 – LEAVER Ronald Thomas of the Crossings 19 Ormond road, Wantage, Berkshire, died 9 April 1964. Probate Oxford 13 May to Arthur Neville Leaver, wholesale salesman. £11,903
