They are holding their 50th anniversary local history day at St Peter's Church, Burnley, on Saturday, November 1st from 11am until 4pm. Everyone is welcome.
Think I will have a wander down for a nosey

It's on the same day as the Family History Fair in Liverpool :(

What time does the Liverpool one start? I might do both. Got to head north for one so why not carry on?!

We are thinking of going in on the train, so should be there 11'ish, but may get an earlier train then we can have a look around Liverpool afterwards.

How I feel right now (absolutely shattered), I'm not sure I shall make it to either. We are back to far more work than I wanted :(

Thanks Stephanie.
I've just been talking to mum and dad about it. Dad has said he will drive us there if I prefer. I spent so much time on motorways over Tuesday/Wednesday that I really don't fancy the journey either as a driver or a passenger. Our trip back took much longer than it usually does because of the snowflake that fell on southern England on Tuesday. The M25 & M1 yesterday were hell, a 3 hour trip from the tunnel took over 6 hours in stop/start but mostly stop traffic.

My daughter in law and grandson were on the M25 yesterday afternoon, there was a hold up, waiting for the air ambulance as there had been an accident with a lorry. Lets hope everyone was ok that was involved, the first snow you see, it has come early though dont you think. Talking about winter on us early, I have got a crop of snowdrops, poor little beggers they have bloomed early have'nt they.

Looks like we may not get to Liverpool, a slight possibility Burnley--we'll see. I think Liverpool would have been interesting with the link with immigration/emmigration Ireland, USA and beyond.

Thats a shame Gloria.
I don't think we are bothering with either now though I am still tempted by Burnley. I'll see how I feel and what the traffic on the M6 is like when I surface tomorrow.

I think part of the trouble on the M1 was the fact that people were using it instead of the M40. The M40 was closed both ways because of an accident, sadly a lorry driver died.

Been to The Burnley and District Historical Society meeting today at St Peter's. Had a really good time, never been to one of these do's before, myself and a pal have really enjoyed ourselves. Spent more than I wanted, but never mind got some smashing literature.
Talking to Roger Frost, he was on good form, such a knowledgable bloke, he gave me a couple of freebies as he could not change a fiver. He hopes his book A Lancashire Township will be ready in the New Year, the printers that are doing it are going out of business or something, but they will get the book done.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful, organisers and visitors alike, grand lot arnt they these family history folk, I think it is because we all have so much in common. The bells were ringing at the church when we arrived, we thought we had got it wrong and it was'nt being held there, we were frightened of opening the door in case a wedding was in progress  But they said the bells were ringing to welcome us all. Finished off with a nosey around the churchyard before it got too dark. Beautiful church St Peter's have'nt been inside for ages, I was confirmed there by the Bishop of Burnley, many years ago.

Sounds like you had a good time Stephanie. What goodies were they flogging? It also explains why I couldn't get hold of Roger earlier.
I'm glad I made my mind up not to go, I've been hit with man flu or something. Feel absolutely lousy now. I should have guessed it was coming on me really as all my usual indicators were there.
